Costa da la Luz
The Costa de la Luz is Spain’s southernmost region occupying the area from Gibraltar to the Portuguese border and consists of 2 provinces – Cadiz and Huelva. Cadiz is an area that ripples with history and tradition. It is one of the poorer areas of Spain and golf is being used as a turnkey to generate a tourist business to take advantage of the fabulous weather – 300 days of sunshine a year and very good temperatures but mostly with a cooling breeze from the Atlantic. Excellent quality courses like the well established Montecastillo and Montenmedio and a host of excellent newer courses Sherry golf being the pick of those clustered around our favoured base towns of Jerez and El Puerto de Santa Maria beautifully set on Cadiz Bay. Green fees remain reasonable and the area has the weather and quality of its more illustrious neighbours Costa del Sol and the Algarve but at much better prices. There are good flight routes into the area especially from the south into Gibraltar and Jerez.
The eastern province of Huelva is less mature in golfing terms but the excellent resorts of Islantilla and El Rompidou are supplemented by good courses at Costa Esuri, Bellavista and Isla Canela to name just three. For a quality on site break at a resort golf complex look no farther than Islantilla which has 27 holes on site and the opportunity to play another 7 or 8 local area courses at fabulous prices. For great weather and a relaxing on site location this is the place for you. Faro airport is just an hour form Islantilla and offers incoming flights from all over the UK.
